Draw regions

A region is an area on the map. It can be anything: a kingdom, a city, a forest.

  1. Select Draw region in the bottom toolbar (shortcut R).

  2. Click on the canvas to place the outline and close the loop.

  3. Accept in the confirm bar to create the region.

Draw region has three sub-modes: Free, Add (paint to grow), and Subtract (paint to erase). To edit an existing region, click it while Draw region is active to select it. Add and Subtract then let you grow or erase its area like painting. The brush shape can be circle, square, or diamond.

Turn on the magnet toggle next to the toolbar and newly drawn regions snap to the borders of nearby regions. It keeps adjoining borders clean.

The magic wand creates a region that fits the terrain you painted.

  1. Select the magic wand in the toolbar (shortcut W) and lasso the area you want.

  2. The matching cells inside the loop are kept (land versus water by default), and the largest blob is traced into a region outline.

  3. Hold Alt to match only the exact same surface type.

The magic wand shares a session with the Draw region tool. Depending on the selection, it grows a region, nests a child, or creates a new one. Hierarchy is covered in Edit regions and hierarchy.
